Graduate interview: Meet Jack Persen, who recently landed a role with Air NZ!

Posted on 01/12/2021 by

Study From Home graduate recently landed a role with Air New Zealand.

Jack Persen earned his qualification with Study From Home, then set out to find a role in the industry – ideally in aviation.

Our team of Employment Consultants worked with Jack and encouraged him to apply for a Customer Service Agent role with Air New Zealand in Hamilton. Jack very nearly got the job but only just missed out, and clearly Air New Zealand were impressed, as they called him back to apply for a different role instead.

That’s why this summer Jack will be working with unaccompanied minors as they travel around New Zealand, a fantastic first role in the industry and one that is sure to quite literally take him places.

We received wonderful news after this amazing opportunity that Jack has been offered a permanent role as a Customer Service Agent with Air New Zealand.  He starts his new role on the 7th February 2022.  We are so pleased he still got tp his dream job.

We had a quick chat with Jack about his time with Study From Home and his unaccompanied minor role.

What was your favourite thing about Studying From Home?

My favourite thing about studying from home was the flexibility of being still able to work part time and study when I am not working. I did also enjoy having fun and supportive tutors to work with.

How did you find out about the job you’ve applied for?

I found out about the role after they had told me that I wasn’t successful in the previous job I had applied for. Air New Zealand rang me a couple of days later offering me a different position which could lead into the role I had originally applied for.

How have you found the process of application with Air NZ? What has that been?

The process with Air New Zealand has been easy. The process started off with them ringing me to offer me the role. Once I had accepted the job, there were multiple security and health checks that I had to do which were very easy and organised by Air NZ.

How has ITC supported you with the application process?

ITC supported me with helping with my CV and also giving me helpful advice with the process of application and heaps of information about the job itself. It helped give me confidence when going through the interview process.

Do you have any advice to help inspire anyone else deciding to enter into tourism or aviation?

Follow your goals, stick to what you are doing and always put 100% effort into whatever it is. It will pay off in the end.

Working in aviation

Jack won’t be the only one getting a job with Air New Zealand this summer, as the Auckland border comes down and we look ahead to open borders for the whole country, the entire aviation industry is gearing up and hiring huge numbers of skilled staff.

In fact, Emirates recently launched their hunt for more than 3,000 cabin crew and hundreds of support roles – and that’s just one airline!

If you’d like to work in aviation, now is the time to earn a qualification so you’ve got the skills and knowledge to start a job with Air New Zealand like Jack, or any of the countless airlines around the world seeking staff right now.

Take a look at the qualifications you’ll earn with Study From Home, and get in touch with the team to find out more about enrolling!
