Why now is the time to study travel and tourism

Posted on 11/05/2022 by

Now is the perfect time to study travel and tourism with Study From Home.

New Zealand has officially opened its borders to travellers from visa-waiver countries, signalling that we’re once again receiving tourists. And we’re not the only country to take this step back to normality – countless nations around the world have found ways to open up to tourists safely.

As a result, the travel and tourism sector is growing at an incredible pace, with operators around the world seeking to hire new talent.

As expected, there has rarely been such a good time to study travel and tourism, earn an internationally recognised qualification, and start on an exciting new career path.

Here are just some of the news stories coming out from around the world showing just how in-demand anyone with a tourism qualification is right now, and will be in the foreseeable future!

Global tourism to recover from pandemic by 2023, post 10-year growth spurt

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has announced that the tourism industry has been projected to return to pre-pandemic levels in 2023. Not only that, but it will also grow at an incredible rate, and create a whopping 126 million new jobs around the globe.

Speaking about the Asia-Pacific region specifically, the WTTC said the hospitality industry is likely to outstrip its earnings from 2019 in 2023, showing that even though tourism will continue to build this year, it will reach new heights again next year.

This is fantastic news for anyone looking to study in 2022, as by the time they graduate later this year, they will likely have their pick of jobs. This is especially true as it will be the first summer that New Zealand is open to tourists.

Tourism has potential to play a major role in global pandemic recovery

The International Labour Organization (ILO) recently highlighted policies that could help tourism to play a major role in helping the world economy to recover from the pandemic.

These policies were decided by a group of tourism specialists, including representatives from 86 governments, and covered a range of guidelines such as finding ways to make tourism more sustainable, and investing in the development of a skilled tourism workforce.

The report mentioned that before the pandemic, tourism was responsible for one in 10 jobs worldwide, which is why it can be such a big part of the world’s recovery now that tourism and travel are back on the cards.

Cook Islands tourism industry desperate for workers

From the start of May, the Cook Islands removed more barriers to entry for tourists and travellers, signalling that more people are welcome to visit and enjoy what this beautiful place has to offer.

However, the tourism industry there is already desperately seeking workers to help manage the influx of visitors.

Business Director Steve Anderson said there are currently approximately 700 vacancies for jobs in the Cook Islands, and another expert said there are businesses that are operating with just skeleton staff for now.

For those who have always wanted to work in tourism in a beautiful island location, the Cook Islands could be a great option in the very near future!
