ITC hosts an incredibly successful Industry Expo at Auckland City Campus
On Wednesday August 31, we held an Industry Expo at our Auckland City Campus, and it was a monumental success.
This special annual event is a fantastic opportunity for both students and tourism employers, and we’re so excited to have seen such a great turnout and incredible connections made on the day.
The Industry Expo
Each year, we invite a number of tourism and travel employers to come along and speak to our current and potential future students about what the industry is like, and what it’s like working for them.
For students, this is a wonderful opportunity to see what kind of career options are available to them when they graduate, and what they need to do to prepare for that ‘dream job’. It’s also a chance for students to make connections in the industry and potentially set up job opportunities in the future, or part-time work while they study.
This year, we invited not just current students but opened up the event to members of the public as well, so anyone could hear from industry insiders. Plus, it was a great chance for potential future students to learn more about studying travel and tourism.
For tourism providers, it’s a great way to meet some of the up and coming students who will soon be graduating and looking for work.
This year, we were excited to welcome representatives from NZ Customs, Jetconnect/Qantas, flight attending, Sudima Hotels, Menzies Aviation, Go Holidays, Helloworld, A J Hackett, Accor Hotel Group, Haka Tours, Fullers 360, and more.
ITC’s Ceri Jenkins played a major role in organising the day, and called the event a “huge success”.
“Students were able to engage with key industry partners in a professional but casual manner which made them feel comfortable enough to ask the right questions and engage in meaningful dialogue. There were so many smiling faces around the campus with students so excited about their futures and exploring new sectors of the industry that they had not thought of previously,” he said.
One highlight of the day was hearing from several industry partners looking to set up interviews with specific students, with one employer inviting a student to visit the hotel immediately for a look around and to work part time as they completed their studies.
“Industry were so impressed with the quality of our students and the interaction they had with them on the day. Many commented about the students’ level of enthusiasm and excitement about working in our industry in the future, which in turn just made the industry partners feel so positive especially after such a challenging few years,” said Ceri.
Feedback from the industry following the expo
Our industry contacts were blown away by the quality and enthusiasm of our students, and weren’t afraid to say so.
“We really enjoyed it… We can tell that all the tutors and leaders at ITC really genuinely care about their students and where they will go after their studies. We can really appreciate the difference.” – Shelby Cooper, Operations Director of International Working Holidays
“It was great to see so many students eager to join the travel and tourism industry after the last couple of years. Attracting young people to our industry is such an important part of our recovery and ITC plays a critical role in this, so thank you for everything that you do!” – Sarah Hunter, General Manager of Go Holidays
“Glad the students enjoyed our visit, we hope to see them graduate their relevant courses and apply with Jetconnect in the future,” – Dickson Ng, Senior Consultant People of Jetconnect
“We really had a good time meeting the students and showing them a little more about what we do,” – Priel Paniora, SkyJump and SkyWalk Manager at AJ Hackett Bungy
Ready to launch your travel and tourism career?
The annual Industry Expo is an exciting event in the ITC and Study From Home calendar, but it’s far from the only time we connect with the industry, and it’s certainly not the only way we help students learn about real-world opportunities.
Our courses are designed to prepare students for work in travel and tourism with practical skills and knowledge, and our employment consultant is dedicated to connecting students and graduates with available positions throughout the year.
