Be one of the 1.2 million workers tourism needs to employ this year!
The World Travel and Tourism Council recently announced that the industry needs to employ 1.2 million new workers this year – and that’s just in the European Union!
Many of these jobs were lost over the pandemic, but now that tourism is well and truly bouncing back, there’s a huge demand for skilled workers across the industry all over the world.
Julia Simpson, World Travel and Tourism Council President & CEO talked about how Europe has seen one of the best recoveries so far, but that the sector is struggling to keep up with the surge in demand.
“Governments and the private sector need to come together to provide the best opportunities for people looking for the great career opportunities that the travel sector offers,” she explained.
Here in New Zealand, we’re seeing similar demand from the industry in the lead-up to the first summer season with open borders since before the pandemic.
Many sectors are seeing increases in the amount of job ads, but hospitality and tourism have seen the largest year-on-year growth of them all. From August 2021 to August 2022, the sector had a huge growth of 175% in job ads, highlighting just how many roles are out there for skilled workers all over the country.
Great news for qualified workers
All of this might make things tough for tourism and travel employers right now, but it’s great news for anyone with a qualification – such as our Study From Home graduates.
First of all, it means there’s a huge amount of choice for our students and graduates. From airline roles, to opportunities in hotels, to working with some of New Zealand’s top tourism attractions, with so many jobs available, graduates are spoilt for choice when it comes to finding a position that suits them.
Not to mention, employers know that to attract top talent, they’re going to have to offer competitive salaries and benefits. When so many places are vying for the same pool of qualified staff, employers are starting to offer better incentives for working with them.
Of course, our ITC employment consultant is on hand to help connect students and graduates with great roles in the industry.
